Please join us on Saturday May 18 at 7:00 pm for the next Night Out at the Museum with
Diana Almendariz (Nisenan, Wintu) as she weaves traditional stories with the past and present. Diana will tell traditional Nisenan and Wintu stories in the outside amphitheater at the Maidu Museum in front of the fire pit. Diana sees the continuation of these traditional stories impacting her work helping manage landscapes with cultural burning. She currently works with UC Davis researchers and Yolo County to manage cultural burns at the Tending and Gathering Garden in Cache Creek Conservatory. She is an expert in using fire to bring balance to ecosystems that benefit native plants, animals and people. The results of these cultural burns show a healthier ecosystem and provides high quality raw materials for Indigenous basket weavers.
This is a free event and welcomes visitors of all ages. Light refreshments will be served. Doors open at 6:30pm. This program is made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services
Inspire! Grant for Small Museums.
