The Maidu Museum & Historic Site, in partnership with Sierra Native Alliance, is proud to present
Remember the Promise: A Tribute to Missing & Murdered Indigenous People.
Opening on May 5th, National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, this art exhibit is focused on raising awareness of the ongoing epidemic of violence towards Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirit people. While acknowledging the grave losses experienced by Indigenous communities, the show seeks to honor the beauty and strength of these individuals who are too often the target of violence, as well as resilience and hope in the face of this epidemic. Join us as we remember the promise of those taken too soon and affirm our commitment to the ongoing promise of spreading awareness so that, one day, there are no more stolen sisters.
This show also celebrates the 1-year anniversary of the Red Dress Quilt Project, created by the Sierra Native Alliance Youth Leadership Program. The Red Dress Quilt will be featured as the centerpiece of the exhibit for the duration of the show.
We hope you can join us on Friday, May 5th (7pm-9pm) for an opening reception featuring artist talks, a ceremony from Sierra Native Alliance, and light refreshments.
