The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has again rated Roseville number one in flood control. Roseville is an internationally recognized leader in flood preparation and prevention, and the only community to hold a Class 1 rating from FEMA’s Community Rating System. Roseville has held this ranking since 2006.
Roseville’s top rating means residents and businesses receive, among other benefits, flood insurance discounts of up to 45%. FEMA rigorously evaluates communities on effective information, mapping and regulatory standards, community resilience, open space preservation, hazard reduction, and flood preparedness.
Since the historic flooding in January 1995 when 358 structures were flooded, approximately $33 million in flood mitigation projects like stream widening, flood walls, and storm water bypass channels were completed in Roseville. Additionally, improved development standards and more accurate floodplain modeling have ensured that structures built since the 1980s have not experienced creek flooding.

Nationwide there are 22,447 communities in FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program. Of those communities, only 1,509 have a Class 1 – 10 rating. Two of the country's eight Class 2 communities are in our region—the City of Sacramento and Sacramento County.
