Save energy when it matters most

Plan ahead and Conserve energy

Summer can bring days with temperatures over 100 degrees. When we experience extreme heat waves, energy conservation during peak hours (4-9pm) is most crucial.

Raising your AC temperature is one of the most effective ways to save energy. During peak hours, try setting your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits.

Limiting the use of ovens, stoves, dishwashers, and laundry machines; closing your blinds to block the sun's heat; and using ceiling fans that spin counterclockwise are all good ways to help save energy and preserve your home's internal temperature too.

While it’s important to limit the use of major appliances between 4-9 p.m. in the summer, it’s equally important to plan for that energy use before or after those hours. Try achieving the checklist below before 4 p.m. or after 9 p.m.:

- Pre-cool your home by setting the thermostat to a lower temperature
- Charge electric vehicles
- Charge mobile devices and laptops
- Run dishwashers, laundry machines, and other appliances
- Set pool pumps to run
