About the project

Your neighborhood is scheduled for Phase 2B of Sun City resurfacing. This work protects your street and reduces the need for costly street repairs in the future. You will receive a more detailed schedule in the coming days.

Sun City is being resurfaced in phases through 2024. This $3.75 million phase is paid for by the Highway Users Tax and Senate Bill 1 Road Maintenance & Rehabilitation.

Construction schedule

Construction is anticipated to begin in summer and continue through the end of 2023. Work hours are 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

On the day of resurfacing, no parking is permitted on the street 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. If you need to use your vehicle, we recommend moving it to an adjacent street before 7 a.m.

Please note the schedule is subject to change due to equipment, materials, weather, and other unexpected conditions. You will be notified of any schedule changes.

Notification

Five days before the start of work, you’ll receive a notice at your doorstep with the work schedule. Forty-eight hours before work begins, “no parking” signs will be placed on the street.

What to expect

Streets are resurfaced in three steps. Each step occurs a few weeks apart. Prior to each phase, Public Works prepares the neighborhood with high-quality pavement sealers to ensure that roads are in optimal condition for resurfacing.

The first step of construction requires the removal of old sections of asphalt roadway.

The second step includes applying a mix of gravel and liquid asphalt. This surface will be coarse in appearance. As the resurfacing cures, loose gravel will shed from the roadway and leave a rough surface. This is normal and will decrease over time.

The third step is to add a liquid with much finer aggregate that fills in and smooths out the pavement.

Streets will be swept after each step to remove debris. However, if you notice additional sweeping is necessary, please call (916) 774-5790.

Be sure to check your shoes and pet paws before entering your house.

If refuse collection is scheduled on the same day as paving, continue to place your bin at the curb.

Use caution when traveling near work zones.

Emergency responders will continue to have access to your neighborhood.
