Roseville receives 2020 Paving the Way Award from Greater Sacramento Economic Council

Greater Sacramento Economic Council (GSEC) recognized the City of Roseville for advancing economic development in the region at their virtual awards event on Dec. 3.

The 2020 Paving the Way Award acknowledges the city's achievements in creating a successful community for businesses, visitors, and residents. Roseville's ability to eliminate roadblocks and aid those struggling through the pandemic’s most difficult challenges was also highlighted by GSEC.

"For years, we’ve been working hard to lay the groundwork and create the environment for a successful community for businesses, visitors, and residents. We saw a lot of those efforts bear fruit this year," shared Mayor John B. Allard II.

This year Roseville was ranked 45th best place to live in the nation by Money Magazine and the only California city recognized.

The pace of new home permits are accelerating, spurring a 3.8% population growth rate in the last year.

Businesses are also choosing to invest in Roseville. New businesses like Living Spaces, Penumbra, and an Amazon distribution warehouse recently opened. The city boasted 89,492 total jobs in 2019.

A major expansion of the emergency and critical care facility at Sutter Roseville Medical Center was completed this year. A new clinical building for Kaiser is now open and drive thru flu vaccines are being provided. A new events center at the Placer County Fairgrounds in Roseville has doubled as a COVID testing center and PPE distribution center.

Roseville was also recognized for efforts to aid businesses and residents struggling through the pandemic’s most difficult challenges, including working to stay afloat economically and addressing food security. This assistance includes:
•  $1 million in zero-interest loans to 111 small businesses, equaling 1,092 jobs.
•  $630,000 in low-income small business loans through federal CDBG and CARES Act funds.
•  $615,000 for homeless prevention and rapid rehousing.
• Allowing businesses to expand outdoors without a permit.
• Serving 16,000 meals to residents in need through Family Meal Roseville.
• Distributing 60,000 masks and 500 gallons of sanitizer for free to businesses.
• Constructing six outdoor dining platforms in Downtown Roseville.
• Launching electric vehicle rebates, Reopen Energy Smart, and Electric Residential Relief programs.

“Every year, this event marks the important achievements of entrepreneurs, communities and business leaders throughout the region. We’ve seen outstanding dedication from the community amid one of the greatest economic setbacks of our time,” said Barry Broome, President and CEO of GSEC.
