Work planned for Atlantic and Vernon Street S-curve project to improve traffic

Work on the Atlantic and Vernon Street S-curve, between Lincoln and Yosemite Street, is expected to start this winter to improve traffic flow and safety.

Project updates include adding lighted pedestrian crossings to enhance safety, reducing lanes to slow vehicle speeds, installing green bike lanes for better visibility, and constructing landscaped medians. In addition, left turns will be limited at smaller intersections to help reduce collisions.

Construction hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Timelines are approximate and subject to change. Lane closures, minor detours and periodic night work may occur during construction. Advanced notice will be provided to residents and businesses prior to the work taking place.

Project funding is provided by the Highway Safety Improvement Program grant funds, Transportation Development Act funding, and Highway Users Tax fees.
