The Traffic Unit is budgeted to include one motor sergeant and six motor officers, in addition to two Community Services Officers who specialize in traffic collision investigation. The Department also has one DUI Enforcement Officer. For scheduling purposes, that officer is actually assigned to our Crime Suppression Unit.
Our goal is to reduce the number of injury collisions within the City and investigate collisions when they occur. Our MAIT (Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team) investigates all fatal collisions.
We strive to accomplish our goals in the following manner:
-
ENFORCEMENT: Roseville Police Department's Traffic Unit regularly works traffic enforcement in our City's highest frequency collision intersections. We also receive input from our citizens, in the way of traffic complaints, and focus on solving the related traffic issues. These complaints may involve motorists, bicyclists, and/or pedestrians on our City's roadways. We participate in grant enforcement operations funded by the Office of Transportation Safety. We place an emphasis on traffic laws related to drivers who are operating their vehicles while their licenses are suspended. Our unit conducts all of the follow up investigations on hit and run collisions that occur in our city.
-
EDUCATION: The members of our Traffic Unit provide educational presentations to various schools and community groups. We participate in such programs as Safe Routes to Schools and Every 15 Minutes. We also deploy movable sign boards to remind drivers of their speed and other traffic related issues.
-
ENGINEERING: Our Traffic Unit maintains a solid partnership with our city's Traffic Engineering Department. Together we work on solving traffic flow problems from a design standpoint.
In addition to the above, our Traffic Unit:
-
Participates in the City's holiday parades,
-
Provides traffic control and motor escorts for various events, and
-
The mobility of our motorcycles allows us to arrive first at many of our city's high priority calls, where we are able to assist our Department's Patrol Division.
Citation corrections: If you received a ticket for a correctable mechanical violation (otherwise known as a "fix-it ticket"), after you've fixed the issue, you can get your ticket signed off by coming to the front counter of the Roseville Police Department, 1051 Junction Blvd., on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Bring your citation and the vehicle that needed fixing. One of our community service officers will verify that the correction has been made, and sign off your ticket. We do not have staff available at the police department for this service other than during those hours.
DRIVE SAFE! AND GET THERE ALIVE!
