Our Veteran’s Memorial Park North has a beautiful new look and feel after recent upgrades were completed.
“Our Parks staff noticed that the trees planted to honor our Veterans weren’t looking healthy,” says Parks, Recreation & Libraries Open Space Superintendent Brian Castelluccio. “They were really struggling with the salinity in the recycled water and being watered by overhead sprinklers designed for the turf. So, we decided to replace the trees with a species that could better tolerate the recycled water, remove the turf and install an efficient irrigation system for the trees.”
Overall, 52 Trident Maples were planted, 25 were replacements and 27 were additions to the grove. The turf around the trees was removed and replaced with bark to help hold in the moisture from the new drip irrigation system.
The park stands in tribute to the men and women who have served in the U.S. and Allied Armed Forces. The City of Roseville in partnership with the Roseville Historical Society and several Veterans groups have installed flagpoles, lighting, a rose garden, a Brick Walk of Honor and the Memorial Tree Grove.

“The goal of the upgrades to the park was to honor our Veterans in the best way possible and also to ensure the sustainability of the trees planted to memorialize them,” adds Castelluccio. “Our Parks Maintenance, Irrigation and Urban Forestry teams really stepped up to complete the renovation, and based on how amazing it looks, really took pride in the job.”
