Momim Wene Closing Reception

Momím Wené | Medicine Water Closing Reception

Join us for a free public reception as we say farewell to Momím Wené | Medicine Water, an exhibition exploring Tribal relationships with waterways and the impact of colonization across California Indian Country.


Featuring 40 artworks by 29 California Native artists, the evening includes a 6:00 PM artist talk with Deerstine Suehead, Viola LeBeau, Malissa Tayaba, and Sage LaPena, moderated by curator Meyokeeskow Marrufo.

Enjoy refreshments, complimentary exhibition gifts (while supplies last), and $1 mini prints from the Momím Wené art card vending machines!


Presented by the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians' Exhibits and Collections Center in partnership with concept:art+movement.

Native Artisan Fair

Shop an exceptional selection of handmade work from Native artisans--including jewlery, beadwork, pottery, textiles, craving, and more--perfect for unique holiday gifts or meaningful keepsakes. Meet the artists, hear their stories, and support the continuation of Indigenous traditions through art. Museum admission is free to the public.

Interested in the history and significance of jewelry-making for Native Northern Californians? Join Elaine Quitiquit-Palmer (Pomo) to learn about the traditional techniques and materials used for generations. Using these techniques, you’ll create a beautiful piece of jewelry!




Plant Spirit MasksPlant Spirit Masks Workshops
November 15 | Ages 8-18

Join Indigenous artist Joshua Frederick (Menominee) for a hands-on workshop highlighting the symbolic significance of masks to Native cultures. Participants will choose from a selection of plant spirits—such as Sage, Strawberry, Oak Leaf, Sweetgrass, and Blossom—to inspire their own spirit mask creation. No experience necessary—just an open heart, a creative spirit, and a desire to honor the natural world through art. 




SpearthrowingSpear Throwing 
 September 13 | Ages 8-18

Step back in time and test your skills at spear throwing! This hands-on experience introduces you to the atlatl—a hunting tool used by Indigenous peoples around the world for centuries. With guidance from an instructor, build your own atlatl and enjoy open range time! 




Campfire
 September 19 | October 17 | November 14

Listen to Indigenous stories and roast marshmallows around the campfire at the outdoor amphitheater of the Maidu Museum & Historic Site. Make memories, enjoy great stories and tasty treats with the whole family. This is a popular program and does fill up fast; buy tickets early.




Campfire ImageRock Art Mysteries Tour

See the petroglyphs like you have never seen them before! Special lighting brings out carved details that are only visible during this tour.  Enjoy a walk after dark and learn the history of the unique artifacts on the Historic Site. Our tour will begin after Campfire at 9pm.
