EngageRoseville report given to City Council; Budget Workshops set for June 4-5

Updated April 05, 2018

You've been heard.

With the city's year-long EngageRoseville effort, we've asked you to tell us what city services matter to you - in online surveys and budgeting applications, community meetings, through the volunteer Community Priority Advisory Committee and your emails and phone calls.

EngageRosevilleAll of the input was presented to the City Council at its April 4 meeting in an almost 1,200 page report.  Several members of the community also spoke at this public meeting.

The City Council will use the feedback and recommendations in the report to guide its decisions on the fiscal year 2018-2019 budget and beyond.

The City Council is holding Budget Workshops beginning at 4 p.m. on June 4 and 5 in the City Council Chambers, 311 Vernon Street in Downtown Roseville.  The workshops are open to the public.

The Council held a Service Reduction Workshop on April 10.  You can watch the workshop here. You can also download the City Council workshop presentation from the meeting.

Your input is important because Roseville, like many California cities, is facing a growing budget gap. Our current $2 million gap in the City's General Fund operational budget is expected to grow. This is due to increasing expenses and slowing revenue. The city has also deferred millions of dollars of needed maintenance to balance our budget since the Great Recession.

Over the past 10 years, the city has taken several steps to reduce expenses - particularly labor expenses, our largest General Fund cost given that we are a service organization. These include:

  • Reducing staffing by 39% per capita
  • Reducing salaries to the market median
  • Reducing the amount of yearly merit salary increases by half
  • Increasing the amount employees pay for their pension and benefits

You can watch the April 4th EngageRoseville presentation to the City Council here.

The City Council will also hold Budget Workshops at 4 p.m., June 4 and 5.  As with all City Council and Commission meetings, these are open to the public and will be held in the City Council Chambers.
