The long vacant lot on the corner of Washington Boulevard and Main Street in the historic area of Roseville is being transformed.
This lot and an adjacent lot along Main Street are the site for the Main Street Plaza Apartments, a 65-unit, four-story workforce and affordable housing community in two buildings. The project also features 3,000 square feet of ground floor retail space and 59 off-street parking spaces.
The property is being built by Meta Housing and will offer one, two and three bedroom apartments for low-income families, veterans, and individuals with special needs including homeless veterans.
Workforce housing is housing built with federal, state and local subsidies to make housing accessible to the local workforce, like those in an entry level position, service sector and manufacturing jobs as examples.
This project follows the Lohse Apartments, Downtown Roseville’s first workforce housing project (pictured below).
The Lohse Apartments opened in November 2018 and features 58-units and ground floor retail space.
The Main Street Plaza project included the demolition of a nuisance building on Main Street that consisted of the deteriorating Roseville Hotel on the second floor, and vacant commercial space on the first floor.
The demolished property was plagued with code violations for more than ten years.
Demolition of the building was completed in the spring of 2019 resulting in the removal of blight, and a health and safety nuisance, improving the neighborhood value and decreasing calls for service to public safety.
